In the summer of 2020, Portland, Oregon was burning down, both literally and figuratively. The air was unsafe to breathe and the pandemic was in full force. Stuck inside, my friends and I watched movies for hours on end, and I decided to make an Instagram account dedicated to the ones that moved me. The posts generally included a slideshow of screen caps from a film, followed by a quote and my own summary and analysis of it.

 

I coined the handle "@medium.cult," as I had originally intended to cover all forms of cult media, eventually refining it to just cinema. Nevertheless, the name stuck. I amassed a humble following and met wonderful film-lovers from around the world, one of which I met in person in Porto, Portugal in Summer 2023. This website was a passion project for me to free Medium Cult from the limitations of social media and to allow it grow into itself.
